Description:
Harboring bitterness, resentment, and anger in our hearts will greatly minimize our intimacy with Christ and effectiveness for Christ. Forgiveness gives freedom to live at peace with ourselves, with God, and with others. While there will be times when forgiving someone will feel impossible, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God not only to be forgiven but to live with a forgiving spirit. Children of God have the power to walk in the joy of forgiveness because the Spirit of God lives within them.
In order to forgive others, we must accept that God’s ways are not our ways. When we suffer because of sin someone has committed against us, we must trust God and receive what He has for us in that suffering rather than growing bitter toward those who sinned against us. We must also understand that forgiving is not the same as forgetting. Forgiving does not require us to forget or even minimize what happened to us. Forgiving is choosing to release bitterness, resentment, and anger toward our offender for the sake of love.
