The Joy of Trusting

Psalm 33
Christmas - Psalms of Gladness
J. Josh Smith

Description:
A lack of joy points to a lack of faith. Joy and anxiety cannot coexist. What are you worried about this week? One by one give those worries to God. Choose to trust in the Lord. Trust His word. God’s word is powerful and perfectly effective, and He chooses to use His word for you—to transform your heart and to direct your circumstances. Trust His work. “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes His steps” (Prov. 16:9). Make plans, but hold those plans loosely. Trust whatever the Lord works in your life. Trust His will. Only the Lord is perfectly trustworthy. So, don’t trust in the people or things of this world, but trust in His will for your life. Trust the Lord and experience the fullness of joy!

Remember the two responses Pastor Josh gave us:
(1) Don’t worry; wait, and (2) don’t despair; rejoice.
What if you don’t feel like rejoicing? Rejoice anyway! Psalm 33 commands us to rejoice.

"You can lift up your hands regardless of how you feel; it is a simple motor movement. You may not be able to command your heart, but you can command your arms. Lift your arms in blessing; just maybe your heart will get the message and be lifted up also in praise. We are psychosomatic beings; body and spirit are intricately interrelated. Go through the motions of blessing God and your spirit will pick up the cue and follow along." –Eugene Peterson

Rejoice by faith, not by feeling!
