Preparing for and Responding to Worship

“Unwavering Faith” – Joshua 14:6-15 | Pastor Rickey Primrose

Truth: God will bless unwavering faith. In Numbers 13 and 14 God tells Moses to send twelve spies into the land to scout it out and bring back a report to the people. The spies brought back a majority report and a minority report. Tragically, the people of Israel listened to the unfaithful majority, and did not receive the blessing of God. Caleb receives the land and God’s blessing because he and Joshua alone had unwavering faith.

Response: What are you afraid of? How are your fears grounded in unbelief? How are you denying God’s goodness or doubting his promises? Are you trusting your eyes or feelings and forfeiting God’s blessing?

Truth: Unwavering faith claims what God has promised. There is a boldness in Caleb to lay hold what God had promised him. Biblical faith is not wishful thinking or the power of positive thinking. Biblical faith is not anchored in what you want or in how you feel. Biblical faith is anchored in the promises of God.

Response: How do you distinguish between unwavering faith and “the power of positive thinking” or a “name it and claim it” faith? What are some promises from God’s Word you can trust in difficult times? As you read God’s word this week look for his promises to his children.

Truth: Unwavering faith acts on what God has said. Faith does not simply believe what God has said but acts on what God has said. Unwavering faith is expressed through steps of obedience. Following Christ can be difficult because there are few who are willing to pay the cost.

Response: Are Have you ever experienced a “lonely” faith like Caleb? What does it mean in your life specifically to be someone who wholly follows the Lord? This week, how will you act on what God has said?

Truth: Unwavering faith believes that God is greater. Faith did not change Caleb’s circumstances—the terrain was still rough, the cities were still large and fortified, and the giants, the Anakim, where still there. Faith did not remove the opposition. Faith simply believed that God is greater than the opposition.

Response: What obstacle are you facing right now? Do you believe that God is bigger? Do you believe that God is greater? As you read God’s word this week look for verses that remind you of the greatness of God.

Prepare for the Message

“The Ultimate Volunteer” Matthew 26:26-34 | Pastor Enoch Chan

This week Pastor Enoch Chan will be bringing us a sermon from Matthew 26:36-46 titled “The Ultimate Volunteer”. This text describes Jesus’ time praying in Gethsemane before his betrayal and arrest. Read this section of Matthew this week as well as the following verses 47-56 speaking to his betrayal and arrest. Throughout this scene we see Jesus’ struggle between his divine nature and the desires of his flesh. He knew the horrific nature and death that awaited him. How did Jesus handle this struggle? With whom did he surround himself during this time? How did these friends help him during this struggle? What helped Jesus prevail as he moved forward with the plan of God? How does this passage lead you to praise God, repent of sin, and trust in his promises?
